Welcome to the website of Green Team Mawdesley, an enthusiastic group of residents who have come together to help reduce their own carbon footprints and those of other residents in the village and the surrounding area.
So, what’s our point of view?
Our World is getting warmer and more stressed, due largely to the growing impact of man’s carbon footprint, and we believe it’s time we made a stand and helped reverse this trend - before it’s too late.
We are all part of the problem but, in the case of our team, we feel a lot more positive about the future now that we’re doing something about it. Whatever the motivation, most of us are looking for a sustainable lifestyle and to live in harmony with the natural world, so we can hand it on to future generations in good order. Please help us meet this challenge, today, by filling in our membership form, below.
So, what have we achieved over the last year?
- Formed in February 2008, we now have 14 members who are actively involved with the campaign and the number is steadily growing.
- In March we made our first presentation to Mawdesley’s Parish Council and our message was well received.
- In June we became fully constituted, with officers and a bank account.
- In July we were awarded a grant of over £9,000 from LCC’s Climate Change Fund, to set up an awareness roadshow.
- With support from the Parish Council we published our first newsletter in September, which went to every home in Mawdesley. We also established our website.
- Also in September we manned our first show stand at Mawdesley’s Family Fun Day (see photos).
So, what are our future plans?
- To continue publishing quarterly newsletters to keep people involved and updated with new ideas for reducing our collective carbon footprint.
- To finalise the elements of our Awareness Roadshow.
- We are planning a large public meeting in the Village Hall on 20th January, when we'll be inviting guest speakers to come along and talk about their progress, as an inspiration to us all.
- We are keen to demonstrate the benefits of various renewable energy projects, particularly to our young people.
- See our activities page for more information on what we are up to, and planning on doing in the near future.
If you would like to help, please don't hesitate to get in touch. We have quite a varied range of activities going on and there may well be something that you would enjoy tackling.
